Atmospheric Model Data

Our Atmospheric model data is supplied in a format known as GRIB2 (Gridded Binary or General Regularly-distributed Information in binary form). GRIB2 is a concise data format commonly used in meteorology to store historical and forecast weather data, and the format is sponsored by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).

  • Notes

Met Office Global and Regional Ensemble Prediction System - Global. MOGREPS-G is a probabilistic forecast model generating 18 perturbations of the forecast based on slightly different starting conditions. Orders are fulfilled over all 18 forecasts so data volumes can be very high.

  • Notes

Met Office Global and Regional Ensemble Prediction System - UK. MOGREPS-UK is a probabilistic forecast model generating 3 perturbations per hour of the forecast based on slightly different starting conditions. We recommend you take all 18 forecasts variations over a six hour period for maximum accuracy so data volumes can be high.

Our Atmospheric models require steps that involve selecting your region of interest, parameters, file delivery preferences, and more, to build your order. For more information on how to build your order, please visit our 'How to build your order' page.

What is an order?

An order is how you define the data you would like to retrieve from our system. You can select one of our Atmospheric models (see details of our models above), add parameters, time steps and model runs, and give your order a unique name. Our system uses the information stored to provide you with a retrieval URL for each file.
